FAQ
Questions writers ask
Is PaidStories free?
Yes. The directory, the guides and the tracker are free to use, with no account.
Can I send my story to PaidStories?
PaidStories is a directory. Send your story to the markets listed here, through their own submission systems.
What does 8¢ a word mean?
The market pays eight US cents for each word of the story it buys. A 4,000-word story earns $320. Many genre markets treat 8¢ a word as the professional rate. The payment guide has a table for other rates and lengths.
What's the difference between simultaneous and multiple submissions?
A simultaneous submission is the same story sent to several markets at once. A multiple submission is several stories sent to one market at once. Markets set their own rules for each, and every listing here shows both.
How current is the information?
Each listing was read from the market's own guidelines page on the date it shows. Markets change rates, windows and rules without notice, so always confirm on their page before you submit.
How does "Open now" work?
Markets that read all year count as open. Markets with fixed windows are open when today's date falls inside a posted window, worked out in your browser. Markets that close when they reach a cap show "Check status", because only their own page knows.
Why isn't a market I know listed?
Either we haven't reached it yet, or its page didn't load or didn't state a pay rate when we checked. Send it through the contact page and we'll look.
Do you list markets that charge reading fees?
Yes, when the fee is a small processing charge with a free alternative, or a contest entry fee. Every fee is marked on the listing, and the "No fee" filter hides those markets.
Where does the tracker keep my data?
In your browser's local storage, on your device. Nothing is sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data or switching browsers or devices removes it, so export a JSON backup regularly.
Can I move my tracker to another computer or phone?
Export a JSON backup on the first device, then import it on the other one from the tracker's Backup tab.
Can I open the tracker data in a spreadsheet?
Yes. Export CSV gives one row per submission with the story, market, dates, status, payment and notes. You can also import a CSV with the same columns.
A listing is wrong. How do I report it?
Use the "Report a change or an error" link on the listing, or the form on the contact page. Include the market's page if you can, and we recheck it.
